Mangga Golek, as its known among Indonesians and Malaysians, is a large long green mango. Each mango can be quite large - weighing up to 800g, with the average weight of 500g per mango.
A ripe Mangga Golek has green-yellowish skin with light brown dots, which may not make it the prettiest of mango. However, its sweet deep yellow to orange coloured flesh is thick yet soft, not watery and fibrous.
An unripened Mangga Golek is also often used for rujak, as it is not too sour and the flesh is crisp.
“Golek” in Javanese and Malay means “to find”.
Also known as Cedar Bay mango in Australia, and Rabaul, New Guinea long, and Foo Fat in other regions like Papua New Guinea.
This variety is grown in Darwin, NT. Limited quantity available.
Price stated is per piece. Each mango weighs approximately 500-800g, some can be up to 1kg.
