This tropical grape, known as buah rambai or rambi in Malaysia and Indonesia is often mistaken for duku langsat.
While it is not from the same species as lansones/langsat, baccaurea motleyana has plenty of similarity with taste and looks. However, one feature is the rambai's leafy sepal/calyx near its stem.
Each fruit has velvety yellow, or brown skin and usually filled with translucent white pulp containing 1 to 3 segments. Sometimes 5. The pulp is more acidic sour-sweet in taste (more than duku langsat). Typically eaten raw, it can also be made into jam or wine.
Try these Australian-grown rambai from Far North Queensland.
